Repeat Prescriptions

As I am sure you are all aware we are no longer accepting repeat prescriptions via telephone and from the 1^st November 2023 the pharmacies will not be taking your prescription requests. Please Click here for further information on these changes and why they have been made. 

The easiest, safest and quickest way to order your repeat prescription would be electronically, via one of our Apps, which will direct your request straight to a GP to process. It will be the patients responsibility to order their own medication allowing 72 hours for their request to be processed by the surgery.

For those patients who are vulnerable, on palliative care, or those who do not have internet access, your repeat prescriptions can still be ordered by completing the right-hand section of your previous prescription form and either dropping it in the letterbox at the surgery or sending it to us by post.  Pharmacies are still able to order repeat prescriptions for patients in exceptional circumstances, as described above. 

There will be no changes made to patients who are on dosette boxes, for these patients your medication will continue to be managed by the pharmacy. 

Medication Reviews

We are keen to ensure that patients who are on repeat medications are monitored regularly, to ensure we are safely prescribing. If the date for your next review with a doctor or nurse has passed you will be asked to make an appointment.

NHS prescription charges and exemptions

Extensive exemption and remission arrangements protect those likely to have difficulty in paying charges (NHS prescription and dental charges, optical and hospital travel costs).

The NHS prescription charge is a flat-rate amount which successive Governments have thought it reasonable to charge for those who can afford to pay for their medicines.  Prescription prepayment certificates (PPCs) offer real savings for people who need extensive medication.

Changes to prescription ordering

The way you order your repeat prescriptions is changing.

As I am sure you are all aware, we made the decision in April 2019 to no longer take prescription requests over the telephone. This was to ensure patients who really needed to get through to the surgery could do so.

In an attempt to make the process more streamlined, pharmacies will no longer be accepting your repeat prescription requests from the 1st November 2023.  We would instead, ask that you use the NHS App, MyGP or SystemOnline which are all simple and secure ways to order your repeat prescriptions on your smartphone or tablet.  If you already use Patient Access, then you can continue to do so.

These App's gives you more control over your own health, care and are there for you to use at all times of day and night, wherever you are. Making information about your health treatments readily available to you, allowing you to be more involved in your overall care.

For vulnerable patients, patients on palliative care and those without internet access, you can still order your repeat prescription by post or putting your request in the letterbox at the reception desk.  We understand this is not feasible for everyone and therefore for the above patient groups only, you can still order your repeat prescription with your local pharmacy.

These changes mean that your request will go straight to the GP which cuts down on administrative time and the processing of your repeat prescription will be quicker as you will be dealing with the surgery directly. Please allow 72 hours (3 working days) for your prescription to be processed and sent to your nominated pharmacy.
